How much does it cost to convert a Series Land Rover to electric?

Accepted Answer

Every build is bespoke. Cost depends on your chassis, wheelbase, top, trim and drivetrain choices — and on whether you bring us your own Land Rover or ask us to find one for you. As an indication, the cost of supplying and fitting a 40 kWh drivetrain starts at £29,000 ex VAT, payable in instalments. We'll talk you through it properly and confirm everything in writing during your consultation.

How long does the conversion take?

A full build runs over several months end-to-end — vehicle inspection, body-off strip, EV drivetrain installation, trim, road-registration and handover. We give you a clear timeline and milestones at booking, and keep you updated throughout.

Question 3

What's the real-world range of an EV Classics Land Rover?

Accepted Answer

Each car uses an upcycled 40 kWh battery pack — sized for how a Series Land Rover is actually used: country lanes, hotel runs, school runs, event days and hire weekends. Real-world range varies with spec, terrain and driving style. We'll talk you through what to expect from your build during consultation.

Can I charge it at home?

Accepted Answer

Yes — like any modern EV. A standard 7 kW home wallbox will fully charge the car overnight; a regular 3-pin domestic plug works as a slow trickle for top-ups. Public AC charging works as standard wherever you find it. We can also help you with installing charging options at your home, including solar charging options.

Does the converted Land Rover keep four-wheel drive?

Accepted Answer

Yes — the conversion is engineered to retain the Land Rover's mechanical 4WD character, so it still feels and drives like a Series. We'll walk you through the technical details of your specific build during your consultation.

Question 6

Which Land Rovers can you convert — and can you find one for me?

Accepted Answer

We focus on Series Land Rovers — Series I, II, IIA and III. If you don't already own one, we can find the right car for you as part of the project, working with trusted UK suppliers. Just tell us what you have in mind.

Question 7

How does the paperwork work — DVLA, V5C, MOT and road tax?

Accepted Answer

As part of every build we notify the DVLA and update your V5C so the fuel type is recorded as ELECTRIC. Series Land Rovers over 40 years old are eligible for the UK's historic-vehicle tax class and are technically MOT exempt ("vehicle of historic interest"). However, because a converted Series has a modified drivetrain, it should go for an annual MOT — which we can handle for you. For newer Series, pure EVs pay the standard £195 VED a year (as of April 2025).

Question 8

Is it exempt from ULEZ and Clean Air Zones?

Accepted Answer

Pure battery-electric vehicles are free in London's ULEZ and every UK Clean Air Zone — so a converted EV Classic is as at home in central London or Birmingham as it is on the South Downs. Note that since 2025 battery-electric vehicles are subject to the London Congestion Charge.
